Lisburn Museum’s history talks enjoyed by audiences around the world
February 18, 2021
The Irish Linen Centre and Lisburn Museum’s winter online history talks have proven very popular. People have been tuning in from Munich, New Jersey and Ontario Canada.
Renowned speakers and leading historians took part in this series. They discussed the Decades of Centenaries, the 1918 Spanish Flu and its lessons for today among a range of other interesting subjects. Those watching enjoyed listening to impressive speakers discuss important historical issues.
Alderman Michael Henderson MBE, Leisure & Community Development Chairman, said, “We remain committed to growing our virtual museum offering. Our staff are delighted these talks were enjoyed by audiences from countries across the globe during the pandemic. We are glad everyone has stayed connected with our annual talks programme remotely during such a challenging time; when access to things we love and enjoyed has been restricted.
“We are overwhelmed by the support we have received and how popular the talks have been. Keen historians watched our six talk series for a combined 671 hours between November and January.
“The final talk in the series was very relevant to the challenges we face today. Patricia Marsh explored ‘The Spanish Flu’ and incorporated our local contemporary project ‘COVID-19 and Me’. I would like to thank our guest speakers for their inspiring talks, delivered with passion.
“All the positive feedback we have received will help inform our plans for the future. More lectures and talks are planned throughout the year so watch out for details coming soon.”
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues into 2021, please continue to contribute to our ‘COVID-19 and Me’ archives. Share photographs and thoughts from all generations with us. Then 100 years from now there will be valuable information on what happened, how we felt and how our communities came together to help each other.
