Lisburn City Centre Packed for Northern Ireland Match

June 22, 2016

Lisburn’s Market Square was packed on Tuesday evening as Northern Ireland supporters turned out in force to cheer on Northern Ireland at the City’s public screening of the Northern Ireland v Germany Match.

Residents, young and old joined in the family – orientated festivities and celebrated together as they witnessed the Northern Ireland team progress to the knock out stages of the 2016 European Championships.

Speaking at the screening, new Mayor, Councillor Brian Bloomfield said that he was delighted that so many people had come out and joined together to support Northern Ireland.

“Much has been made internationally of the good nature, behaviour and passion of the travelling Northern Ireland supporters and that has been matched in every way by our local support,” said Councillor Bloomfield.

Two large screens streamed the match and entertainment on the evening was provided by Cool FM.

Chairman of the Leisure & Community Development Committee, Councillor Tim Morrow said the Council and the people of Lisburn and Castlereagh would continue their fantastic support of this historic Northern Ireland Team.

“Now that it has been confirmed that Northern Ireland have progressed to the next stage of the tournament I am hopeful that we will be able to screen Northern Ireland’s next match and if we can, I hope to see as many fans as possible come along and support our wee country,” said Councillor Morrow.

Given that, at this stage, the date and time of the next match, is not yet confirmed there are a number of scheduling issues within the City Centre, which may pose difficulties for a Saturday screening. A Northern Ireland match if scheduled for Sunday will go ahead in the City Centre.

Updates will be made available once we know Northern Ireland's Draw for the next stage.
