Lisburn Castlereagh - Time to Make The Move

October 5, 2017

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council will return to MIPIM UK to demonstrate why the area is one to watch when it comes to investment and development opportunities.   Is it time for you to ‘Make the Move’?

For us it is all about location.  Only 8 miles southwest of Belfast City Centre with direct motorway access Lisburn Castlereagh is strategically located on two key transport corridors; north-south and east-west.  Our ideal location means we have the perfect all-island base with easy access to both the UK and EU markets.  Post-Brexit this will place us in a very unique and advantageous position.

With a tailored package of support for investors along with the proposed reduction in corporation tax to 12.5% and planning authority we are certainly ahead of the game.

Visiting one of the latest developments in the Council area Chairman of the Council’s Development Committee, Alderman Allan Ewart, MBE, said: “We are delighted to return to MIPIM UK to demonstrate our commitment to growing our local economy through investment.  With a designated area of 264 hectares across a number of locations zoned for employment this substantial land reserve has significant potential for future developments and the wider public interest.

“We want to demonstrate the vast opportunities that we have for developers who are considering a base in Ireland or relocating operations to a more cost-effective and business-friendly location.   Specifically we want to grow our retail and leisure offering and create high quality offices.  Potential also exists to generate a new driver for the night-time economy and the Council wants to encourage the provision of a range of retailing, commercial and cultural venues alongside hotel developments and bars and restaurants.”

Dr. Theresa Donaldson, Chief Executive, Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council said: “One of the latest developments in Lisburn, at Lisburn Enterprise Organisation (LEO), will see the creation of 26 new offices.  It is encouraging to learn that almost 40% of the space already pre-booked.  Projects like this £1.8 million investment which is due for completion in December shows that confidence is growing and the demand for office space is high.  The Council is keen to work with developers in securing investment in our economy.  The location of our area is key to the success of many businesses already based here and we also enjoy the second lowest commercial rate of all the Northern Ireland Councils.”

The Mayor, Councillor Tim Morrow, will also be joining the Council’s Investment Team at MIPIM.  He said: “This is a great platform not only to highlight our area as a prime investment location but to highlight the specific sites that we have identified through our Local Development Plan as prime investment opportunities.  We are delighted to work in partnership with Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon Borough Council to promote Northern Ireland at a high profile business panel event on the 18th October at 2.15pm.  This will look at the compelling story of talent, tax, technology and connectivity that makes Northern Ireland the go-to region for investors and occupiers.  Make sure you secure your place at this event to hear from investors already in Northern Ireland and the economists and decision makers who want Northern Ireland to be part of your agenda.  Also make sure to visit our networking events at Stand E12 at 3pm each day.”
