Lisburn Castlereagh community receives over £244,000 in funding
June 7, 2022
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has awarded grant support of £244,812 to 91 eligible community and voluntary groups across the council area through its Community Support Grant Scheme.
Councillor Sharon Skillen, Leisure & Community Development Chair, said: “The interest in this grant scheme was high. We are delighted to have the opportunity to invest in and support our communities as they play an important role. These 91 local groups will use their grant to improve their skills, enhance their services and facilities alongside implementing new programmes to improve community relations, reduce social isolation and strengthen the sense of community at a grassroots level.
“Planned activities range from the provision of advice services, lunch clubs, after school clubs, sports to educational classes. It can also be used to assist groups to cover additional costs associated with running centres at a time of increased utility charges and cost of living crisis. Through the services local groups develop and deliver to local people ultimately improves the quality of life in their area.”
The council is keen to offer grant funding opportunities to allow local groups to help their members become active citizens and empower their community to make decisions for the benefit of all.
This scheme provides assistance to local groups towards running and programme costs.
