Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council Taking the Lead in Responsible Dog Ownership

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is encouraging all dog owners to ‘take the lead’ in responsible dog ownership.

Dog owners in the Council area are encouraged to be responsible ensuring that their dogs are licensed and microchipped and that owners ‘scoop the poop’ to avoid facing an £80 on the spot fine. 

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council area strives to ensure that its citizens are safe and can enjoy the local parks and public spaces available to them.  Dog fouling is not only an unpleasant encounter for any resident, but presents health hazards for anyone who comes into direct contact with it.

In order to promote the importance of cleaning up after your dog, the Council has rebranded vans with vibrant messaging to reinforce the importance of being a responsible dog owner and member of the community.  

Speaking about the new campaign, Chairman of the Council’s Environment Services Committee, Alderman Tommy Jeffers said, “The Council has a zero tolerance policy on dog fouling and our Enforcement Officers will be patrolling local areas to ensure that the minority of dog owners among us who are irresponsible are identified and held accountable.  Our new eye-catching branding will ensure that our message is highly visible throughout the Council area and by spreading the word, we hope to seriously reduce the problem of dog fouling, if not eliminate it completely.”
