Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council Launches 'Live Here, Love Here' Grants Scheme

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is promoting the Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful, ‘Live Here, Love Here’ Small Grants Scheme aimed at introducing positive changes to local communities across the council area.
Grants are available from £500 to £5,000 and can be used to improve environments, reduce littering and build civic pride and are open to volunteer and community groups, all school and third level education organisations, youth groups and sports clubs undertaking civic pride projects.
Lisburn & Castlereagh Council is now a member of Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful, an organisation that helps to make positive changes to the environment. The council is keen to support and promote initiatives such as the ‘Live Here, Love Here’ Small Grants Scheme that encourages local communities to participate in projects to improve the environment in which they live.
Speaking about the grant scheme at a ‘BIG spring clean-up’ along the River Lagan Towpath, Chairman of the Council’s Environmental Services Committee, Alderman Tommy Jeffers said: “I would encourage everyone within the Lisburn & Castlereagh Council areas to get behind the programme run by Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful – Live Here, Love Here. The Small Grants Scheme is now open for applications and I would urge interested groups within our community to apply before the closing date of the 28th May. It is important that we as a Council area take the necessary steps to protect and enhance the environment in which we all live.”
Chairman of the Council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee, Alderman James Tinsley, who also took part in the Towpath Clean-up said: “The Council is committed to protecting our natural environment and contributing to the health and wellbeing of our community so this grants scheme is the perfect vehicle to let local residents contribute in such a positive way.”
Leading the BIG Spring Clean, The Mayor, Councillor Tim Morrow was joined by Council staff, Elected Members, representatives from The Department for Infrastructure’s Safe & Sustainable Travel Division, Northern Ireland Environment Agency, Coca-Cola as well as staff from Lagan Valley Regional Park and local community groups who all rolled up their sleeves to help remove litter along the Lagan Towpath. As well as this, 2 volunteer canoeists also helped to clear rubbish from the River Lagan.
Speaking about the BIG Spring Clean, the Mayor commented: “The BIG Spring Clean is Northern Ireland's biggest volunteer clean-up and this was a great opportunity to announce the ‘Live Here, Love Here’ grants scheme. Looking after the environment can be fun and just think of all the other great activity could take place with the support of a grant from the scheme.”
The Live Here, Love here Small Grants scheme has been launched by Northern Ireland Housing Executive, Choice Housing, McDonald's, Keep Northern Beautiful and a number of local councils including Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council.
Applications must be submitted by Monday 28th May 2018 at 12 noon.
