October 18, 2021

On World Menopause Awareness Day, Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has launched a new Menopause Policy.

The aim is to change attitudes towards Menopause in the workplace and create a better understanding through education.

Vice Chair of Corporate Services, Alderman Michael Henderson said: “Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is committed to providing an inclusive and supportive working environment for all employees and as part of this commitment we have created the Menopause policy.

“It is important that across the whole council everyone is able to express any concerns they have when it comes to their health and wellbeing and that they feel supported in dealing with any challenges they may be facing.

“I hope that, through this policy, all staff will be more informed, more confident and better able to support each other when necessary.”

Caroline Magee, Head of Human Resources and Organisation Development, added: “At Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council, we recognise that our employees are our biggest asset.

“They continue to work tirelessly to deliver essential services and support local people every day. We must do all we can to provide support to employees who may be facing challenges such as menopause. .

“We want women to be able to feel confident to discuss menopause and ask for support so that we can put in place adjustments to help them continue to be successful in their roles.

“Training and guidance on how we help those suffering from menopausal symptoms will be available for all our staff. We want to educate men and women about Perimenopause and Menopause which for many women can be a life changing and isolating experience.”
