Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council Awarded National Standard Charter Status

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is delighted to have recently been awarded the National Standard Charter for Member Development.  This accreditation follows a rigorous assessment by The Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA).

The Charter recognises the Council’s demonstration and commitment to building Elected Member Skills in areas such as political and managerial leadership, learning and development, strategic approach and decision making. 

Chairman of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s Elected Member Development Steering Group, Councillor Nathan Anderson said: “This National Charter Accreditation is testament to the hard work of our Elected Members and their personal development, and I would like to convey my congratulations to everyone involved. 

“The Elected Members of the Council are committed to the residents and businesses of our area and display such determination to make our community the best it can be.  Receiving this accreditation demonstrates the Council is aiming to ensure our public representatives are also the best they can be by providing a robust support network of learning and development.

“There has been significant time and work dedicated to this accreditation process, both from the Council’s Elected Member Group and also Council Officers.  It is encouraging to know that their efforts have been rewarded with this award,” said Councillor Anderson.

Chief Executive of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Dr Theresa Donaldson, said that this Award was a demonstration of the Council’s commitment to continuous improvement.

“This latest accreditation demonstrates once more our desire and ability to reach standards of excellence in what we do by working together. The National Charter Accreditation for Elected Member Development lasts for three years and we will consider the recommendation from the assessors to aim for the Charter Plus Accreditation in 2019,” said Dr Donaldson.
