Inauguration Ceremony of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China

The Mayor, Councillor Thomas Beckett was delighted to accept a kind invitation by Chinese Consul General, Madam Wang Shuying to attend the Inauguration Ceremony of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Belfast which took place last night at the Hilton Hotel, Belfast. It is hoped that the establishment of the Consulate in Belfast will further enhance relations between the Chinese community in Northern Ireland and further develop, trade, investment, cultural and education links with China.

Also welcoming the Mayor last night was the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Wang, who was delighted to hear that the National Gymnastics Centre, Salto in Lisburn was the pre-Olympics training camp which hosted the talented Chinese gymnastics team during their final preparations for London 2012. Other high profile guests included, Martin McGuinness MLA Deputy First Minister, Finance Minister Arlene Foster MLA and the Chinese Ambassador to the UK, Liu Xiaoming.
