Historic Day for Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council officially assumed responsibility for the new Council area today (1st April) when the 11 new Super Councils opened for business for the first time.
At its first Full Meeting Councillor Thomas Beckett took up his position as the new City's first Mayor with Councillor Alexander Redpath as his Deputy Mayor.
During the Full Council Meeting, tributes were paid to the outgoing Presiding Councillor, Alderman James Tinsley and Deputy Presiding Councillor, Councillor Stephen Martin.
Following the meeting, a Tree Planting Ceremony took place to mark the occasion, followed by the raising of the new Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council Flag and a Lunch Reception at Lagan Valley Island.
Speaking during the meeting the Mayor said "I am honoured to have been installed as Mayor of this great City and I will do everything I can to bring together all our citizens from both our former Council areas.
"Our theme is Striving for Excellence and I have no doubt we will do just that in everything we do and I pledge to do this to the very best of my ability and with the highest regard for the Office of Mayor."
