Hillsborough Castle & Gardens opens its gates to the public

April 18, 2019

Alderman William Leathem, Chairman of the Development Committee said:

"To have a royal residence open to the public all year round is a great asset to the Lisburn Castlereagh area. Historic Royal Palaces (HRP) has undertaken significant renovations to both the Castle and the Gardens to create a luxurious tourist attraction.

"HRP is a strategic partner of the council and we wish them every success with Hillsborough Castle & Gardens. I have no doubt that they will achieve the predicted high visitor numbers as many will want to see a venue that previously was only accessible by invitation.

"The additional tourists to the area will also benefit the local economy as they will take time to shop, eat and relax within Hillsborough and Lisburn city centre. On behalf of the council I wish HRP every success in the years ahead; and I hope that everyone who visits Hillsborough Castle & Gardens enjoys the experience."
