Go the Distance Was a Resounding Success

February 15, 2016

The recent ‘Go The Distance’ musical concerts produced by Ashley Fulton were a resounding success.  The concerts brought sport and music together for the aid of the Mary Peters Trust.

The weekend shows were a sell out and special guests included Olympic Gold Medallist Michael McKillop, Judo medallist Mark Montgomery and young Judo sensation James Pentland all giving their testimonies of how the Mary Peters Trust helped them with their sporting career.  Singing sensation Peter Corry was also in the audience alongside Dame Mary Peters.

Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Thomas Beckett speaking about the fundraising concerts, said: “It was a pleasure to host these charity concerts in the Island Hall at Lagan Valley Island to raise money for a very worthy cause, which also happens to be my Mayoral Charity, the Mary Peters Trust.

“The commitment and dedication shown by all the acts was evident and provided a fantastic evening of entertainment for the audiences on both Friday and Saturday night.  I would like to commend Ashley Fulton for donating his time to organise such splendid events.  Also I must thank Friends School Choirs, Adoro Productions, St Joseph’s Grammar School Choir from Donaghmore; St Mary’s Grammar School Choir from Magherafelt and Dr Sean Donnelly for the parts they played during the musical weekend at Lagan Valley Island.

“These showcases of both musical and sporting talent provided entertainment for the audiences of music lovers, friends and family.  I would like to thank everyone that purchased a ticket and assure them that the money will be put to good use by the Mary Peters Trust to fund young athletes in all sports including helping to send athletes to Rio to compete and hopefully be successful on the world sporting stage,” concluded Councillor Beckett.

Dr Sean Donnelly, team doctor for the Irish Boxing Team took to the stage on Saturday night to sing his rendition of Danny Boy, which he debuted at the Commonwealth Games in Victoria in 1994 when Jim Webb won the Gold Medal.
