Funding delight for Lisburn Senior Gateway Club

May 7, 2019

Local charity, Lisburn Senior Gateway Club has announced that it has secured £8,800 funding from the National Lottery Awards for All Northern Ireland.

The funding will be put towards transport costs for Lisburn Senior Gateway Club ensuring that members are able to continue attending club nights and enjoy organised trips.

The club, who worked with staff from Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s Bridge Community Centre in making their application, is delighted with the announcement.  Stephen Lenaghan, Club Leader, commented: “This funding will mean so much to the club.  Not only does it mean that the members will continue to enjoy the valuable services we offer; it will mean that families and carers will get that much needed respite that provides temporary rest from their caregiving duties.  For some members our club is the only social outlet they have so it is vitally important to continue and build on the services we provide.”

The former chairman of the council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee, Alderman Paul Porter, commented: “The council is delighted that Lisburn Senior Gateway Club is able to continue to provide their much-needed services to the local area.  Transport plays a big role in their offering and without it members could not enjoy the social aspect of the club.  The independence it provides members and the benefits to families and carers is so valuable.  Well done to the club for securing this funding.  The council looks forward to working alongside community groups in offering advice and equipping them with the necessary skills to apply for funding.”
