Free plants and bulbs available for the Lisburn Castlereagh community
May 26, 2022
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has partnered with Smurfit Kappa to donate 750 boxes of recycled plant material and bulbs to the Lisburn Castlereagh community.
Each box contains half a dozen Polythanus, two dozen Tulip bulbs and an information leaflet to care for the plants between seasons.
Councillor Sharon Skillen, Leisure & Community Development Chair, speaking about this initiative said: “The council is committed to improving biodiversity in its area. This latest project is also an example of corporate social responsibility for both the council and Smurfit Kappa. We are delighted to have the opportunity to donate plants and bulbs to our residents and community groups on a first come, first served basis. I have no doubt the 750 boxes will be popular at our collection points.”
Smurfit Kappa donated the 750 cardboard boxes. Niall Stewart, Regional Sales Manager at Smurfit Kappa advised: “As a global company we are committed to sustainability and were delighted to partner with the council on this project. Our boxes are a prime example of sustainable packaging that can be recycled. We collect re-use more than 90% of it in our closed loop business model. I hope the residents of Lisburn and Castlereagh enjoy the items being donated under this recycling scheme.”
Councillor Thomas Beckett, Leisure & Community Development Vice-Chairman added: “This innovative scheme allows the council to give back to its ratepayers and help improve gardens and window boxes across the council in the seasons ahead.”
