June 7, 2018
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is providing four grants totalling just over £109,000 to local groups based in Maghaberry village through its pilot ‘Maghaberry, Developing Places- Sharing Space’ Community Fund.
This funding is part of a Developing Places & Sharing Space’ Community Fund pilot scheme launched earlier this year to provide funding to support local organisations in the Maghaberry area.
The successful recipients are Church on the Hill, Yun-Gi Taekwondo, Maghaberry Community Centre and Maghaberry Elim Church. The Council awarded two small grants and two large grants under this scheme.
Alderman James Tinsley, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee, speaking about the funding scheme, said: “The purpose of this pilot community fund was to support groups within the Maghaberry community to enhance the local area and create strong and vibrant communities. Each project has been assessed and meets the criteria of strengthening the local community through vibrant public spaces, enhancing community relations and developing a healthy community.
“The funding, which was provided through developer contributions associated with a Planning Agreement, will support two large projects: the construction of a café style community hub at the Church on the Hill to be enjoyed by everyone and the Elim Church will upgrade its existing car park to provide a resource for the whole community. The smaller projects will assist with the purchase of equipment to increase the participation within the village for Taekwondo and the Community Centre, which is a popular venue within the village will ensure its sustainability by purchasing new equipment to enhance its service provision and. I wish each organisation every success with their project.”
The Maghaberry Developing Places – Sharing Space Fund was a publicly advertised, competitive scheme, and the successful applications were determined based on merit, and solely on the information supplied as part of the application process.
