Football fun at Glenmore Activity Centre
June 4, 2018
World Cup fever hit Glenmore Activity Centre in Lisburn when local primary school children donned their football boots to take part in the centre’s recent 5-a-side soccer tournament.
The tournament, which has been a popular event with schools for the last 25 years, saw over 60 pupils and 8 schools compete in this year’s event. The aim of the 3 day event was to get children involved in physical activity, whilst representing their school and improving their soccer and team work skills.
The winning school was won by Pond Park Primary School, closely contended by Ballymascash Primary School in 2nd place, St Colman’s Primary School in 3rd place and St Joseph’s Primary School in 4th place. The best player was also awarded to Pond Park Primary School for the double win.
Presenting the trophies, the Chairman of the Council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee, Alderman James Tinsley said: “I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate all the children for taking part in the 5 a-side soccer tournament with such energy and enthusiasm. It has been fantastic to see so many children from local schools come together to participate in this popular sporting event, which has been a firm favourite for the last 25 years.
“The Council provides a wide range of events, which aim to provide children with the first steps to a lifetime of physical activity or encourage those who excel in a specific sport, such as soccer, to one day represent their Council area at a local or national level.”
