Efforts of St Vincent de Paul and Salvation Army recognised locally

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council hosted representatives from St Vincent de Paul and the Salvation Army recently in recognition of both charities outstanding work helping those in need.

Over 150 families across Lisburn & Castlereagh received support from the Annual Christmas Appeal which raised over £150,000 overall demonstrating the public’s generosity and appreciation for their good work.

The Mayor, Alderman Stephen Martin, speaking about their dedication said: “The invaluable grassroot work of the volunteers within both charities has never been more necessary helping those in need to be supported. No matter where you come from or who you are they stand ready to help all year round and for that I thank both groups for all they do for our community.

"St Vincent de Paul and the Salvation Army may both have a national and international reach but they are focused on targeting support locally.”

Alderman Michael Henderson MBE, Corporate Service Vice-Chair added: “Both your organisations offer exceptional support. You help those who would otherwise have to make impossible choices of whether to heat the home, put food on the table or place gifts under the tree. Thank you for all your great work achieved through a strong volunteer network.

"In 2021, St Vincent de Paul received the ‘Building Bridges Award’ from the council in recognition of its inclusive friendship, support and practical assistance services.
