June 25, 2021
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is delighted to announce two new grants available to local organisations and individuals who have a cultural or heritage project they wish to undertake. Any funded projects must take place between 1st September 2021 and 31st March 2022.
Through our Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum we have opened two grant schemes to offer organisations the opportunity to seek funding with delivering a local cultural or heritage project as well as for an author to publish their works. Through the council’s Local Investment Plan 2021/22 there is £20,000 available for across the seven District Electoral Areas.
Applications are now open online at www.lisburncastlereagh.gov.uk/irishlinencentreandlisburnmuseum for financial support of up to a maximum of £1,500 for a cultural or heritage project and up to a maximum of £2,000 to publish historical research. Interested parties can apply for one of our two streams before 12 noon on Friday 23rd July.
Cultural Diversity Fund: this is for constituted community/voluntary and faith-based organisations to support cultural, heritage and language projects or events that will enrich and enhance cultural identity, diversity and language in the Lisburn Castlereagh area.
Cultural and Heritage Publication Fund: is to support author(s) to publish work which will share and increase knowledge of local history, culture and heritage of the Lisburn Castlereagh area.
Councillor Sharon Skillen, Leisure and Community Development Chair, welcoming the opportunity to increase the awareness of local heritage and culture said: “The history of our council area is important for everyone and support is available through our Cultural Diversity Fund. We are delighted to give local groups and organisations the opportunity to play a part in raising awareness to all generations on our cultures, heritage and language. I look forward to the delivery of local projects which will embrace inclusiveness and let everyone appreciate the cultures within the Lisburn Castlereagh area and understand our heritage.”
Councillor Thomas Beckett, Vice-Chair of Leisure & Community Development added: “While it is important to bring people safely together to understand different cultures and heritages we also need to support academic research. Through our Cultural and Heritage Publication Fund we are offering those authors researching historical elements of the Lisburn Castlereagh area financial support to publish their research. I would encourage anyone who is currently researching a book, a journal article or developing a digital resource to apply for assistance to help reach a wider audience.”
