Lagan Valley Island lights up in remembrance of lives lost during COVID-19 pandemic

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is lighting up its Civic Headquarters yellow to remember all those who have lost their lives during the COVID-19 pandemic and is seeking views on appropriate ways to help people reflect and remember their loved ones in the future.

Chair of the Corporate Services Committee, Alderman Paul Porter said; “Many people have suffered devastating loss during the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the need to keep everyone safe and reduce our contact, many have not been able to mark the passing of their loved ones as they would have liked.

“Tonight we are lighting up our Civic Headquarters to remember all of those who have died as a result of COVID-19 or through other causes during the pandemic and in support of the families and friends who miss them so dearly.

“A few months ago, Council agreed my proposal to develop a more permanent tribute to those who have lost their lives during this time. It is important that any memorial is reflective of the views of those who have been affected.

“I would love to hear what you think about how we, as a community, could take this forward and create a shared space for quiet reflection to remember those we have lost. Whether you like the idea of planting trees or flowers, a quiet seating area or somewhere to share messages of hope, we would love to hear from you. I hope that together, we can create something that helps us all to remember those we have lost and look forward with hope to brighter days ahead.”
