Council seeking expressions of interest for the development of new community projects
April 28, 2021
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is seeking expressions of interest for a £250,000 pilot project from community, sporting and local interest groups and organisations that have aspirations for new community facilities in their area.
This is part of a commitment to invest £2 million in local communities over the next number of years.
Through this £250,000 pilot fund, the council is keen to offer up to 50% match funding to eligible community led capital projects. It wants to connect with and empower local groups to meet the needs of their communities.
Alderman Paul Porter, Corporate Services Committee Chairman, encouraging local groups said: “The council is committed to working in partnership with communities. We recognise that those of you living and working in these areas are best placed to decide what local people want and need.
“Through the Community Investment Fund, we want to partner with local organisations or groups to help them deliver exciting capital projects that will benefit local communities, people and support community regeneration.
“Our local communities understand what they need to create sustainable spaces that encourage inclusivity and promote community engagement. The council wants to help you bring these projects to life using the Community Investment Fund.”
Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Nicholas Trimble, added: “The council has long term ambitions to transform the Lisburn Castlereagh area through our ‘Connect Invest Transform’ investment plan. This pilot will help shape how we roll out the £2 million Community Investment Fund across all seven district electoral areas.
“Over the last year our communities have adapted to different situations and addressed local needs effectively. This fund is offering our communities the opportunity to further shape their community spaces. I would encourage local organisations and groups to embrace this opportunity to progress plans for a project in their community.”
