In recognition of Glenavy GAA Ladies team’s County Antrim Junior title win last October, Mayor Martin was delighted to welcome them to Lagan Valley Island for a mayoral reception to celebrate their sporting achievements.
St Joseph’s Glenavy defeated St John’s 2-14 to 4-6 to win the Antrim Ladies Junior Football Championship October final.
Hosting the reception Mayor Martin said: “Lisburn & Castlereagh has a proud sporting heritage so I am honoured to recognise the hard work of everyone involved with St. Joseph’s GAC Glenavy by hosting the ladies team following their well-deserved triumph. Captain Grainne McLaughlin took the opportunity to thank all the coaches, volunteers, club and family members who had supported the team every step of the way.”
Councillor David Honeyford also attended the mayoral reception alongside Glenavy GAA ladies. Marking the team’s achievement he added: “The Glenavy community is very proud of the success of this St Joseph’s ladies team. The atmosphere and positivity this team brings, both on and off the pitch, to the wider local community is fantastic. Glenavy GAC has invested heavily in recent years to provide first class facilities for players of all ages and the wider community. Anyone wanting to try a new sport out will be more than welcome.”
Mayor Martin presented Glenavy GAA Ladies with a token of the council’s appreciation in recognition of their championship success.
