Council Launches its New Three Year Good Relations & Cultural Identity Grant
May 15, 2019
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is now inviting applications for its ‘Good Relations & Cultural Identity’ grant scheme from community groups and organisations based in its area. For the first time there will be funding available for projects over a three year period, 2019 - 2022 that improve community relations in terms of religion, politics and culture.
The closing date for applications is Wednesday 12th June at 12 noon for the opportunity to receive up to £3,000 of grant aid per annum for projects that meet the objectives of the scheme.
The aim of the scheme funded through the Executive Office ‘District Council’s Good Relations Programme’ is to promote positive interactions between all cultures and traditions within Lisburn Castlereagh.
David Burns, Chief Executive speaking about this grant, said: “I am delighted to announce this three year Good Relations & Cultural Identity grant managed by the council. This scheme welcomes applications from local groups committed to demonstrating peace and cultural understanding within Lisburn Castlereagh communities.
“If your group or organisation is interested in applying for a grant please attend the information workshops to hear about this revised scheme and receive guidance on submitting an application. The council values the continued financial support for our Good Relations Programme from the Executive Office which plays an important part in ensuring we can offer further support to our communities.”
Mayor Uel Mackin added: “The council understands that local communities are reliant on this grant to develop and implement a programme of events and activities to promote good relations within their area. Through the introduction of this new three year programme of project funding, local communities can build upon projects already in place to create long-lasting outcomes or avail of the opportunity to create new projects that bring people of different backgrounds together.
“It is through the hard work of such organisations and the council’s Good Relations Officer that we can continue to work together to strengthen and further develop the Lisburn Castlereagh community by building and maintaining effective relationships,” concluded Mayor Mackin.
Applications are welcomed under one of the priorities in the Executive Office’s ‘Together: Building a United Community’ Strategy, which outlines how the government, community and individuals can work together to build a united community and achieve change. The priorities are:
- Our Children and Young People
- Our Shared Community
- Our Safe Community
