Council Hosts Reception for Special Olympian Badminton Players

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council was delighted to host a reception recently to mark the achievements of the Lisburn 2gether Pan-Disability Badminton Club.
Alderman Paul Porter, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee was pleased to welcome these athletes, their coaches and parents to Lagan Valley Island.
Speaking at the reception Alderman Porter, said: “It is a privilege to host a reception to honour our local Special Olympians on their recent medal haul from the badminton courts at a variety of international competitions including the Scottish and Welsh Opens. The significant number of medals obtained is testament to the commitment and dedication of the athletes and their coaches. On behalf of the Council I would like to congratulate each of you on winning your medals.
“May I also commend local charity Lisburn 2gether Special Olympics on its commitment to allow those with a learning disability to compete in their chosen sports at a local, national and international level. Over the years there has been a strong affiliation between the Council, Sport Lisburn & Castlereagh and this local charity and I look forward to this continuing,” concluded Alderman Porter.
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is committed to supporting sports clubs in the area through funding and coaching sessions.
