June 13, 2016
Council congratulations have been forthcoming for Sir Jeffrey Donaldson, who received a Knighthood in the Queen’s 90th Birthday Honours for his services to politics.
Sir Jeffrey Donaldson is MP for the Lagan Valley Constituency and is Northern Ireland’s longest-serving Member of Parliament.
Sir Jeffrey and Lady Donaldson attended the Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council-hosted 21-Gun Royal Salute in Hillsborough on Saturday past.
The Mayor, Councillor Thomas Beckett, said: “Having worked with Sir Jeffrey for many years as his personal assistant, I am really pleased for him that his services to politics have been recognised by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. Over the years Sir Jeffrey has represented the party in a number of roles and he is widely regarded as being extremely hard-working and committed to the people he represents.”
Alderman James Tinsley, Chairman of the Corporate Services Committee, said: “I am really proud of Sir Jeffrey and wish him and Lady Donaldson many congratulations. This reward is richly deserved as he is someone who is always on the go and whenever you see Jeffrey he is usually on the telephone or running to meet someone about a constituency matter. I am delighted that his hard work has been so richly recognised.”
Congratulating Sir Jeffrey, at Hillsborough Castle, the Chief Executive of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Dr Theresa Donaldson said: “On behalf of the Council we would like to offer Sir Jeffrey and Lady Donaldson our warmest congratulations on his Knighthood honour. It is one that is richly deserved.”
