Council approves three major planning applications

August 6, 2020

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is pleased to announce the approval of three major planning applications. At the Council Planning Committee meeting on 03 August 2020, planning was granted for;

  • Additional sports and leisure facilities at Hydebank Playing Fields, Castlereagh
  • HGV Trailer Park at Mullaghcarton Road, Lisburn
  • Mixed use development at Comber Road, Dundonald

Commenting on the latest planning decisions, Alderman Owen Gawith, Chairman of the council’s Planning Committee welcomed the decision to grant planning permission for a mixed use development, comprising 119 dwellings and 18 business units in Dundonald. He said:

“The proposed scheme at Dundonald represents a £20million investment in the council area. It offers an opportunity for residents to live close and have access to new employment opportunities. It will also bring wider benefits to the local community with additional access to the Comber Greenway and improvements to the Comber Road. In granting planning permission, the council was very mindful of and had regard for the concerns of local residents.”

Alderman David Drysdale, Vice-Chair of the council’s Planning Committee said:

“The detail of all the major planning applications were carefully considered by the members of the Planning Committee.  In the case of the HGV trailer park, the committee weighed up all the facts and gave significant weight to the economic benefits of the proposal. The approval secures the continued operation of a long established Lisburn & Castlereagh business with local, national and international haulage contracts. The expansion of this existing business will protect 21 jobs which is excellent news for the local economy in these challenging times.”

Speaking about the approval of additional leisure and sports facilities at Hydebank Playing Fields, Leisure and Community Development Committee Chair, Alderman Michael Henderson MBE said:

“I am delighted with the recent planning decision. This permission provides a foundation for making decisions for future investment by the council in our sports and leisure infrastructure.

“As a council, we remain committed to improving council facilities in the local area. I look forward to seeing work progress on the play park and to welcoming local people into the other new facilities at Hydebank Playing Fields as they emerge in the coming years.”
