Council adds additional Dog Waste Bag Dispensers across local facilities
August 3, 2021
With the recent good spell of weather in Northern Ireland, we have seen an increase in visitors to our green spaces. This is great to see and is timely with the addition of new dog waste dispensers in our parks.
The new dog bag dispensers have recently been installed across Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council facilities to encourage dog owners to pick up after their dogs. The new dispensers are now located at Hillsborough Park, Lough Moss Leisure Centre and Billy Neill MBE Country Park.
Councillor Andrew Ewing, Chairman of the Council’s Environmental Services Committee, said:
“At Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, we are committed to tackling and reducing Dog Fouling in the local area. We already have a number of dispensers across our parks, including Moira Demesne, Wallace Park, Moat Park and Barbour Playing Fields the installation of these units at three additional locations is very positive. Dog walkers can access a bag quickly and easily pick up after their pet - there really is no excuse.
“I would encourage all dog walkers to make use of the dispensers when visiting our facilities for dog walks and to dispose of the dog bag waste at park litter bins or other general waste bins. Dog waste bags are also available at Lagan Valley Island free of charge, simply visit the reception desk.
“We want to remind everyone to keep their local area dog poo free and to be a responsible dog owner. Together as a community, we can help keep our parks, open spaces and pavements clean and tidy for everyone to enjoy.”
Dog poo is both anti-social and a health hazard. Play your part to help eradicate this type of irresponsible behaviour by reporting dog fouling incidences.
To report incidents of dog fouling call 028 9244 7397. Provide us with the time and location of the fouling, if possible give us the name and address of the dog owner or a description of the offender. Your name and address will be treated as strictly confidential.
The council continues to operate its zero-tolerance policy towards offenders. Those who fail to ‘scoop the poop’ will receive a fixed penalty of £80 or face prosecution.
