Could You Be 'Transport for London's' Next Supplier?

January 28, 2019

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, in partnership with Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NI Chamber), is seeking local companies to register for the upcoming Buyer Engagement event, featuring Transport for London (TfL), taking place 19 February 2019 at Lagan Valley Island, Lisburn.

Speaking about the event, Vice-Chairman of the Council’s Development Committee, Alderman Allan Ewart, MBE, said: “This is a great event for potential suppliers to engage face-to-face with the procurement team from TfL.  As a result of our ambitious investment programme and networking with key organisations in London, we have created this event for new local suppliers to learn more about TfL and the potential opportunities it has coming up. This can only be positive for our local economy and we are urging businesses to look at what is on offer and think about what this could mean in terms of growing or diversifying their business.”

Chief Executive of NI Chamber, Ann McGregor, is delighted to be partnering with the Council on this initiative and commented: “This event is a fantastic opportunity for local suppliers, as it offers them the chance to engage with TfL, which is the owner and operator of one of Europe’s largest integrated transport networks. They run London’s buses, Underground network and some of the London rail network, and are undoubtedly one of the leaders in responsible procurement in the UK public sector.”

David Wylie, Chief Procurement Officer at TfL, said: “We look forward to meeting local suppliers at this event in Lisburn, so that they can learn more about our procurement requirements and the opportunities coming up in our supply chain. By working with us, all of our suppliers play a vital role in keeping London moving and driving economic growth across the UK.”

Managing Director of Lisburn-based manufacturer Boomer Industries, Andrew Robinson, is supporting the event and said: “For more than 20 years, we have been supplying interior trims to Wrightbus and Alexander Dennis Limited, who both manufacture buses on behalf of TfL and are therefore part of TfL’s supply chain.  It is encouraging that TfL is coming to Lisburn to meet with potential new suppliers. Getting involved with TfL and their ‘responsible procurement programme’ is definitely an opportunity worth exploring.”

The Buyer Engagement Event, which runs from 9:30am – 1:00pm on 19th February is an opportunity for potential suppliers (based in Northern Ireland) to engage directly with TfL’s procurement team and learn about supply opportunities available in the following areas:

  • Estimating
  • Contract Management
  • Signalling
  • Rolling Stock
  • Engineering Consultancy
  • Legal Services
  • Vehicles
  • Advertising

The event will give participants an opportunity to meet representatives from Transport for London and learn about their procurement requirements, network and develop links with each other through speed networking, and access business advice to support their company’s growth.
