‘Connecting You’ device scheme a success

June 3, 2021

The council has delivered the 80 tablets available under its ‘Connecting You’ device scheme to successful applicants.

The scheme was funded by the Department for Communities COVID-19 Warm Well and Connected grant.

Alderman Michael Henderson MBE, Leisure & Community Development Committee Chairman said: “There was a high level of interest in this scheme.  I am delighted we have allocated the devices fairly across the Lisburn Castlereagh area. With many modern services and every day transactions and activities, being accessible online we need to help others connect.

This scheme has allowed 80 residents to connect with family and friends, shop and bank online or to undertake their studies.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the South Eastern Regional College ‘FIX-IT team’ for preparing the devices to be ready to use.  This team of young students is also offering support to our device recipients to help get them started with their new tablet.  I wish our 80 residents every success with their device and encourage each and every one of you to stay safe online.”

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council will follow up with the residents to measure the success of the scheme.  This is part of its continued ambition to ensure no one is left behind.
