Coca-Cola HBC Lisburn Half Marathon raises funds for Mayor’s Charities

February 6, 2018

The Chairman of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s Leisure and Community Development Committee, Alderman James Tinsley was delighted to receive a cheque for £6,500, through sponsorship raised from the 2017 Lisburn Coca-Cola HBC Half Marathon, 10K Road Race and Fun Run, in aid of the Mayor’s Charities, Habitat for Humanity NI and The Corrymeela Community.

Habitat for Humanity NI brings people together to build homes, communities and hope and The Corrymeela Community is Northern Ireland’s oldest peace and reconciliation organisation.

Presenting the cheque, Alderman James Tinsley said: “It gives me great pleasure to present this cheque to the Mayor, Councillor Tim Morrow, for his charities, Habitat for Humanity NI and The Corrymeela Community.

“Every year, a donation of £1 from each entry fee from the event goes to the official Mayor’s Charity.  The amount raised this year is absolutely tremendous and I would like to send my sincere thanks and gratitude to everyone who supported the event and contributed to the final amount raised.

“I am pleased that the Council, through this annual event, can play its part to help provide much needed funds towards two inspiring and deserving charities.”

The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Tim Morrow was thrilled with the amount raised. He said: “I am pleased to accept this substantial amount of money which will no doubt go a long way to making a difference to both, Habitat for Humanity NI and The Corrymeela Community.

“Both charities hold a special place in my heart, having been involved with Habitat for Humanity when it was first established in Northern Ireland and with my family’s longstanding relationship with The Corrymeela Community, it is particularly satisfying to accept this cheque knowing that it will make such a huge difference to all involved.

“I would like to reiterate Alderman Tinsley’s word of thanks to everyone who participated in either the Half Marathon, 10K Road Race or Fun Run. This contribution is simply invaluable.”
