Civic Headquarters building will be lit-up red for VE Day

In recognition of VE Day Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s Lagan Valley Island headquarters building will be lit-up red tonight, Friday 8th May, and on Saturday and Sunday night.

The Right Worshipful the Mayor, Councillor Thomas Beckett, was joined by Alderman James Tinsley; Councillor Alexander Redpath, Deputy Mayor; Councillor Uel Mackin and Councillor Amanda Grehan as Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council marks VE Day.

Peace was restored following the end of World War Two in 1945 and Victory in Europe Day was celebrated on 8th May. The restoration of peace; and remembering the courage, bravery, sacrifice and determination of all the people who contributed so significantly to the war effort; and from all walks of life, is marked this weekend across the United Kingdom.
