Christmas is all around us

November 19, 2021

The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is delighted to be joined by special guests CBeebies’ superstar Gyasi Sheppy and Santa himself to officially switch on the Christmas lights. It will be a virtual event again this year and you can watch online at www.facebook.com/LisburnCastlereagh at 7.00pm tonight (19th November) to join the fun and enter a competition to win family passes for Lagan Valley LeisurePlex and Dundonald International Ice Bowl. The competition closes at 12 noon on Friday 26th November.

Local people, groups and schools from across the Lisburn Castlereagh area play a starring role.  You might spot a few familiar faces while enjoying the show.

The Mayor, Alderman Stephen Martin, said: “I encourage everyone to check out our virtual Switch On event which will see some Christmas magic sprinkled across Lisburn & Castlereagh. As the tree lights go on in Lisburn, we will also light up the many wonderful displays around the City and surrounding towns and villages. Look out for the giant reindeer in Dundonald and the brand new arctic fox in Carryduff.

“Our local businesses, community groups, schools and charities have embraced the festive spirit with their star turns in our virtual switch-on event.  I want to say a big thank you to them for making this such as special event. Happy Christmas to you all and I hope you enjoy the show.”

Lisburn’s own, CBeebies star, Gyasi Sheppy added: “With being from Lisburn and living away right now, I was honoured to join our Mayor to turn on the Christmas lights across Lisburn and Castlereagh. It’s always a joy to be home and it’s even more special at this time of year.

“There is so much to see and do right across this area. Since I’ve been home I’ve been spending time with family and friends in great restaurants and cafes and have even managed to fit in some Christmas shopping.

“I hope you enjoy the virtual Christmas switch on event and I wish you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas.”

The virtual Switch on is the first event in the council’s magical Christmas programme. Visit www.lisburncastlereagh.gov.uk/christmas-programme-2021 for all the details.

The Lisburn Light Festival starts on 19th November with events and light shows running until 23rd December. Come along and enjoy the festivities.
