Calling all entrepreneurial students to the Island Civic Centre Thursday 17 April 2018

Year 13 students in the Lisburn-Castlereagh area are being given the opportunity to become the next generation of entrepreneurs at an event aimed at young people taking place at the Island Civic Centre next Tuesday 17th April 2018 at 9.00am.
The Student Entrepreneurial Programme aims to develop key entrepreneurial skills such as creative thinking, problem solving, resourcefulness and determination.
This Year 13 focused event follows a pilot initiative held at Wallace High School where 26 Year 13 Students completed a series of questions, assignments and activities. For example, students were tasked to create a suit of ‘Enterprise’ armour comprised of five items which would each represent an important entrepreneurial skill. Wallace High School students rose to the challenge with style and showed that they had creativity and competence aplenty.
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is funding the Entrepreneurship Programme and is keen to see as many Year 13 Students come along next Tuesday 17th April to gain hands-on experience and develop vital entrepreneurial skills.
Speaking about the programme, the Chairman of the Development Committee Alderman Allan Ewart MBE commented: “I would encourage schools within the Lisburn-Castlereagh area to get behind this student programme where young people can roll up their sleeves, get stuck in and have some fun.
“We will run three more sessions within the Lisburn-Castlereagh area including this event to be run at the Island Civic Centre. Students will be given a unique opportunity to participate in this skills-building programme and in the future may be one of the lucky individuals who will avail of the many business opportunities that our Council has to offer.
“It is intended to be a fun, interactive session and everyone’s thoughts and ideas no matter how big or small are welcome. We have so many talented individuals in the City area including leaders, business people, self-starters and innovators and we hope to continue to harness this entrepreneurial flair through our young people in the area.”
The purpose of this €220,000 ERASMUS+ Funded Mainstreaming Student Entrepreneurship Project is to develop a more mainstream approach to entrepreneurship in education. Evidence shows that as well as increasing levels of business start-ups, the focus on entrepreneurial skills such as innovation and creative thinking, will stand students in good stead for their working lives.
