Books of Condolence Opened for Orlando Victims

June 15, 2016

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has opened Books of Condolence for the victims of the Orlando attack in Florida.

Forty-nine people were killed and 53 more were injured at a mass shooting attack in an Orlando nightclub in the early hours of last Sunday.

The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Brian Bloomfield MBE, was the first person to sign the Book of Condolence at Lagan Valley Island and said:

“It is important the Council shows its sympathy for those families who have been left grieving and to show our profound sorrow for those people who lost their lives in this terrible massacre.  Such an act, for whatever purpose, is to be utterly condemned.

“We also send our thoughts and prayers to those who are injured and pray for their recovery.”

The Council’s Chief Executive, Dr Theresa Donaldson, also signed the Book of Condolence.

Councillor Owen Gawith, Chairman of the Council’s Corporate Services Committee, said: “I wish to express my profound sympathy at this terrible time to all persons affected.”

Books of Condolence will be available at Lagan Valley Island and at Bradford Court, the Irish Linen Centre, Lagan Valley LeisurePlex and at the Dundonald International Ice Bowl during normal opening hours.
