Ballybeen Multi Sports Camp is a huge success
August 18, 2021
Local children have been getting active thanks to a fun multi-sports camp at Ballybeen Sports Hub in Dundonald. Organised by Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s Sports Development Team, the camp provided children with the opportunity to try out a range of sporting activities in the heart of the community.
The camp was delivered over two weeks by Coach Eugene Moleon who represented South Africa in cricket as well as the 100m, 200m and long jump disciplines in athletics. Coaching included a wide selection of sports including cricket, Olympic Handball, athletics and football.
Visiting the camp, Councillor Sharon Skillen, Chair of the Leisure & Community & Development Committee said, “The multi-sport camp has provided a fantastic opportunity for children to get together over the summer months and experience a host of new sports. Children have been impacted the most throughout the pandemic and staying active is key to improving both our physical and mental health, now more than ever.
“I would like to thank Eugene for delivering the programme and I know that children have benefited from his coaching and enjoyed listening to his sporting stories. It has also been fantastic to host the camp at Ballybeen Sports Hub, which provides a convenient location on the doorstep for many parents and children.
“I hope the children have enjoyed their experience and many will be encouraged to continue with sport at a recreational or club level.”
