£851,000 investment in facilities for our younger residents
June 2, 2021
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s £851,000 play parks programme is nearing completion as part of its Local Investment Plan 2021/22.
The council has invested in six local communities to either develop new play parks or upgrade existing play parks.
Ballybeen, Hydebank and Tonagh will have new play parks. Grove and Halftown play parks have been upgraded. Toilet facilities and additional play equipment were added to Hillsborough Forest Play Park.
Alderman Michael Henderson MBE, Leisure and Community Development Committee Chair said: “The coronavirus pandemic has affected us all. While delivering our critical and essential services the council has been forward planning through its local investment plan. We continue to recognise the importance of play facilities for the health and wellbeing of our younger residents. Local facilities offer opportunities for children to learn, play and exercise safely.
“Our 21/22 local investment plan focuses on partnership working with our communities and businesses. It offers support and physical enhancements across our District Electoral Areas for the benefit of everyone. We look forward to these six play parks opening and addressing the needs of local communities. On behalf of the council I encourage everyone to respect these community spaces.”
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council would like to remind everyone using its play parks to follow the public health guidance of keeping your distance, sanitising your hands and avoid busy times.
Once finished each play park will open to the public. The council will facilitate official openings in line with government and public health guidance.
