£250 million investment for Lisburn Castlereagh – what would you focus on?

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council wants to hear from local residents, visitors, businesses and those who work here about the things that matter to you that will help shape the future of our council area. With a budget in access of £250 million over the next 10 years the council is committed to investing in the local community, capital and infrastructure and the local economy. Projects such as the redevelopment of Dundonald Ice Bowl, a new city centre hotel, upgrading leisure and community facilities and Belfast Region City Deal funded projects will modernise our area and present opportunities for generations to come.
Speaking about the investment proposals outlined in the recently produced visionary plan the Mayor, Councillor Alan Givan, said: “We have ambitious plans for how our area will change enabling residents, visitors, businesses and workers to experience an enhanced quality of life. We strive to deliver high quality projects and first-class frontline services such as registration and waste management; all at the same time as remaining committed to keeping rates low.
“Creating a roadmap like this plan is just the start; we need to get you on board to deliver real improvements and a better quality of life for everyone. We need to know if you agree with our plan; what we want to achieve and how we are going to do this.”
Chief Executive of the council, David Burns explains: “The theme of Connect, Invest, Transform sums up the journey that we must take in order to modernise our council area. Creating a more joined up approach for funding, we will invest in our people, communities, economy and infrastructure, which will lead to an improved way of life for everyone. We will transform how we provide services in the council, taking a more commercial approach for generating income and delivering new and exciting projects.
“As a council we want to take the lead in shaping Lisburn Castlereagh and with our partners we will drive the necessary change that needs to take place in order for us to progress and modernise. We want everyone to feel connected to this plan and share in our vision for the future. Taking a few minutes to let us know what you think means you are playing a role in creating a stronger local economy. It’s your future, we want you to have your say”, he concluded.
