2020 Mayor's Community Awards Is Open for Nominations

The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Alan Givan recently launched the 2020 Mayor’s Community Awards to acknowledge the outstanding contribution and commitment of groups or individuals across the council area. 

We want you to nominate your worthy local individual or group.  The seven award categories up for grabs are: Helping Hands Award, The Brian McDowell Voluntary Commitment to your Community Award, Youth Leadership Award, Community Leadership Award, Charity of the Year Award, Making a Difference Award and The Mayor’s Choice Award.

Mayor Givan, speaking at the launch said: “It is important that as a council we publicly recognise the valuable work of volunteers, paid workers and community based organisations across our communities. They work selflessly to create a new, better society for the future.  The dedication of these individuals and groups is the lifeblood of Lisburn Castlereagh resulting in very successful outcomes for local residents of all ages.

“These awards deliver a strong message about the value of helping others and how it helps to strengthen the Lisburn Castlereagh area – to connect residents and communities, reinforce community spirit and create a more cohesive and inclusive society for everyone.

“Please take the time to nominate those you feel go that extra mile to help others and allow us to recognise their efforts.  The council will accept nominations until 4pm on Friday 1st November so don’t delay and get your nomination in today.  I thank our community and voluntary sectors for their work and wish all nominees every success.”

Nominations will close on Friday 1st November at 4pm.  Judging will take place in November and the Awards Gala Event will take place in Lagan Valley Island on 12th March 2020. Please note that self-nominations will not be accepted.

The judging panel will comprise of a Working Group with representatives from Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Volunteer Now, the Education Authority and the South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust.
