Traditional Arts Workshop

Join visual artists Grainne Kielty and Beth McComish as they work with your group to create a beautiful piece of art using mixed media and watercolour techniques.  The artwork will be displayed from 10th March until end of March 2023 for visitors to enjoy.

Plant your own Spring Hanging Basket

Facilitator Micí McCorry is a Gaelic language speaker, who will use his gardening expertise and mehéara glasa (green fingers) to help you make a ‘bláthchiseán crochta’ (hanging basket) to take home. Workshop is free and all equipment will be provided. No gardening or Irish language experience is necessary, though hopefully you can pick up a few Gaelic phrases and have craic as you plant your basket. Places are limited so book early. Suitable for all ages.

Irish Language Week School Programme

Date: Monday 13th to Friday 17th March        
Time: 10am to 12.30pm
Location: Irish Linen Centre and Lisburn Museum
Cost: Free sessions for classes


Programming includes storytelling with Collette Baille, author of Con O’Neill’s Great Escape, followed by a tour exploring Irish names in nature and a clay arts and crafts workshop.
These sessions are free but must be booked in advance.

Beginners Irish Language Class

Always wanted to try your hand at Gaelic? Come along to our free beginners Irish Language class and learn a few phrases just in time for St Patrick’s Day. No previous experience necessary and the class is suitable for all ages. Class run by Caolan O’Coisneachain, tutor from TURAS, East Belfast Mission. Suitable for all ages.

Hello, Welcome and goodbye for now!

Join us in the ISLAND Arts Centre to celebrate Seachtain na Gaelige – Irish Language week.  Take a stroll down our community arts walkway to enjoy newly installed artwork created by our local community groups, make and take away some traditional Irish art work, listen to some traditional music and watch local Irish dancers.  Craic agus ceol for all to enjoy.

St Patrick’s Day Tea Dance with Housty & Friends
