Two Local Businesses are Leading Innovation at Upcoming Motor Transport Awards

Lisburn based McCulla Transport and the Road Haulage Association (RHA) ‘ExtraClick+’ are finalists in the prestigious UK-wide upcoming Motor Transport Awards in the ‘Temperature Controlled Operator of the Year Award’ and the ‘Innovation Award’ categories respectively.

Designed by two local businessmen Harry and Bobby Connor, the ExtraClick+ is a revolutionary device that takes the guesswork out of securing LGV/HGV roads using ratchet straps.

The Motor Transport Awards on the 5th July will celebrate the outstanding achievement in the road transport industry across the UK.

Councillor Uel Mackin, former Chairman of the Council’s Development Committee met up with the finalists from McCulla and ExtraClick+ to wish them every success at the upcoming awards ceremony in London.  He said: “The transport sector is a vital component to all businesses as it ensures the timely and safe delivery of their products.  McCulla Transport, based on the Altona Road delivers refrigerated goods throughout the UK, Ireland and Europe.  Over the past 40 years it has invested heavily in its Lisburn base in terms of its fleet and software systems to maintain its level of expertise.  Their high quality customer service, competitive pricing and dedicated staff make them a very strong competitor in the refrigerated transport sector.

“In terms of innovation the ExtraClick+ is a much needed product that goes the extra mile to ensure the loads on good vehicles are safely secured.  The entrepreneurs behind ExtraClick+ product, Harry and Bobby Connor, have participated in a number of business support programmes run by Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council and we have been strong supporters of the brothers, their products and their vision for a number of years.

“Their product not only provides peace of mind to the driver but also to other road users who could be affected by shed loads.  The RHA is exclusively selling this product and I hope that all haulage companies will purchase it to secure loads and safeguard drivers health and safety,” concluded Councillor Mackin.

Both finalists have worked with the Council’s Business Solutions team from concept to market and are proof of what can be achieved by participating in the business development schemes on offer.

Brian Kenny, CMILT, Regional Operations Manager Scotland & Northern Ireland, Road Haulage Association added: “Bobby and Harry are without doubt two of the most fascinating and safety conscious people in their field, the products they create are truly designed with one thing in mind, that is the safety of everyone involved around road transport.”

McCulla Transport recently won the ‘Moderate Sized Family Business Award’ at the inaugural NI Family Business Awards sponsored by Business First and Harbinson Mulholland; and the Council hopes it will collect a second award alongside The ExtraClick+ at the Motor Transport Awards on the 5th July.
